About Gabrielle

I’m an illustrator and modern calligrapher creating ranges of greeting cards, stationery, art and commissioned pieces. I’m inspired by our natural world and the romantic, organic designs of decorative arts.

I grew up in an environment of music, art and books. My great grandparents were Royal Academicians, and their sketch books and paintings are a constant source of inspiration. My great aunt was the artist Irene Williamson who created the delightful illustrations of Mary Plain, the series of story books by Gwynedd Rae.

I was taught lettering by a master sign writer/lettering writer. He was quiet, focused and precise and showed me how to apply these processes to my work. I was also taught by Quentin Blake who encouraged me to draw in a loose, quick way but still using the quiet, centred approach.

I produce all my work by hand using traditional methods; dip pens, inks, watercolour paints and crayons. I use gold and silver metallic paints and pure gold leaf in some of the original art pieces. My work is about communicating messages of love, hope, joy, special thoughts at times of happiness or difficulty. I endeavour to communicate all this in my original designs.

The printers and fulfilment service are based in Kent with carbon neutral print presses in a solar-powered warehouse. The paper is from an FSC-certified supplier.

I use paper packaging, biodegradable bubble wrap, British-made tissue paper, brown paper sticky tape, recycled brown wrapping paper and reused boxes for all my packaging. Your order may arrive in a box from another shop or provider!

The studio waste is recycled, composted or incinerated at a power station which generates electricity for the local area.
